Today I have a special feature with Kyle Turner, one of organisers of this year’s ‘Oxford Inspires’ event. Kyle is about to submit his PhD on Childhood Obesity Prevention and is an avid member of Oxford Entrepreneurs. In the coming months he will be launching his new start-up ‘Fungry’ which aims to improve the quality of takeaway food available in Oxford.
Hi Kyle, could you start by telling us a bit about Oxford Entrepreneurs?
Yes, Oxford Entrepreneurs is the largest student society in start-ups, banking, venture capital; basically anything to do with starting a company. The society is totally free and open to students and members of the public. They hold introductory build-a-business courses, speed mentoring and 'mix at six’ networking session for like-minded individuals. In a few weeks some members of the society are heading off to the Silicon Valley and meeting companies and contacts out there.
Wow, that all sounds very exciting. So, what exactly is the Oxford Inspires event you’re organising next weekend?
Next weekend 25th/26th February Oxford Inspires is being held at the Saïd Business School. There are 40 successful entrepreneurs/CEOs/founders attending who will be speaking across the weekend. There will also be mentoring sessions people can sign up for on the day.
It sounds great. Who runs the event?
Oxford Entrepreneurs are putting on this event. It is run by a team of Oxford students, entirely voluntarily. This year we have our director Amy Orben to thank. She has put a great deal of time and effort which will no doubt pay off at the weekend.
Is it open to students and members of the public?
Yes the event is open to everyone. Whether you have vast business experience or none at all, everyone is welcome!
What does the Speaker’s Dinner entail?
The Speaker’s Dinner is being held on the Sunday night at St Hilda’s college. There will be around 45 people in attendance and it’s a chance to network and mingle with the speakers from the weekend events. There are a limited amount of tickets on sale for this on our website.
Where can we buy tickets for the various events across the weekend?
