Thaikhun

This week I enjoyed a delicious meal at 'Thaikhun', a Thai restaurant at George Street in Oxford.

'Street food is a way of life in Thailand. We've taken our inspiration from the streets to transport the sights, smells and taste of Thailand to you.'

So, let me give you the lowdown on my experience:

Atmosphere

Thaikhun is totally different from anywhere I've been to before. Every corner you turn is covered in an eclectic mix of bizarre objects; there's a boat hanging from the ceiling, a bath converted into a seat and a tuk tuk just inside by the bar! I visited on a Tuesday night and the restaurant was absolutely buzzing which is always a good sign. The staff were extremely attentive and welcoming.

Food

This isn't somewhere to come if you're looking for a super long evening, as the food came before we'd even had a chance to finish our drinks but if you're hungry it's the dream. I had a delicious Thai Red Curry and my friend enjoyed a tasty stir fry. There wasn't a scrap left on our plates (despite the large portions); both were flavoursome and tasted authentic. They also offer a great selection of desserts and even have a gluten free chocolate tart!

Drink

We enjoyed a cocktail each; I had a Bellini and my friend had a Mai Thai. The Mai Thai came in a lovely little bucket with crushed ice and our water glasses came in cute little tin mugs.

Price

Sunday to Thursday until 7pm is Happy Hour - all cocktails are £5.

Starters and nibbles £3-£9

Main Courses £9- £17 - most around the £10 mark

Desserts - around £5

I would really recommend Thaikhun if you're looking for a reasonably quick, chilled out meal in Oxford in a quirky and inviting setting.
