An Oxford Term: Quality not Quantity

By Mason Wakley

Starting university is never easy for anyone, no matter how confident they appear to be. You’ve perhaps moved to a new city, you’ve got work and deadlines coming at you from all directions and you’re trying to balance all of this whilst still trying to meet all of these new people and try out the many things that you signed up for at the freshers fair.

Whilst this past term has definitely not been easy for everyone, but in particular freshers, I would say that there has been some positive for having this term during the pandemic. With lectures, labs and classes often being online, the frantic moving around Oxford throughout the day has calmed. With societies being reduced and moving online or restricted to college, my schedule is not jam packed and I do not have this constant feeling of missing out on things going on. This term has allowed me to have quality connections with my flatmates and fully enjoy the experiences that Oxford can offer, simply because this pandemic has force university life to slow down.
