Oxford's Hidden Gems

By Eve Tranter

Oxford is so full of things to do, so much so that when you are lost on a rainy Sunday afternoon and need somewhere to go for a coffee you can’t think where to go! Here are some of Oxford’s hidden gems that I would definitely recommend checking out:

1. North Parade

Situated just north of uni parks, North Parade is a gorgeous little collection of independent shops, a bakery, sandwich deli and pub. Small and quaint, it’s the ideal destination to wander to for lunch, but also vibrant in the evening when it is lit up by overhead fairy lights!

2. Ashmolean Rooftop Cafe

Aside from housing fantastic artwork, the Ashmolean’s hidden gem is its rooftop cafe. Great for a coffee and cake, or afternoon teas on the weekend. A real treat with beautiful views of the city!

3. Missing Bean Coffee Roastery

Almost everyone has visited Missing Bean on Turl Street, but not everyone knows about where the coffee is roasted! Situated on Magdalen Road, Cowley, this is the perfect workspace and escape from the bustling city centre, and some of the best coffee in Oxford too.

4. Vaults and Garden

A perfectly located lunch spot, and gorgeous home cooked food. You can’t go wrong dropping in here after a study session at the Rad Cam, or for brunch on the weekend. They also serve really great scones!

5. College Brunch

Almost all Oxford Colleges have brunch on the weekend. Super reasonably priced and a great way to visit different colleges across the city with friends. St Anne’s has the best brunch by far (I’m not biased I promise!...)
