Preparing for Oxford

By Eve Tranter

Looking back to preparing for freshers week, here are 3 tips for the weeks ahead!

  1. Bring a bike to Oxford - especially if you are in a college which is a little bit further out of town (like my college, St Anne’s). A bike makes Oxford feel much smaller, so if like me you have quite a busy timetable, it allows you to fit a lot more in! That being said, walking around the city to and from lectures with course friends is a great way to catch up!

  1. Research clubs and societies - Use instagram to search for any clubs or societies you may want to join. There will be a freshers’ fair in your first week but it’s always great to be one step ahead if you’re particularly passionate about a certain sport or extracurricular.

  1. Join your college’s Facebook group, WhatsApp or social media platform - a great way to connect with other fresher’s and also to get an insight into what’s coming up for fresher’s week!

Try not to worry too much about what lies ahead! Your tutors will likely meet with you in the first few days of arrival setting out their expectations for the term. If you’ve forgotten to pack something, Oxford has great shops in Westgate so you can always to a last minute dash to the shops! You have so many exciting times ahead of you so just try to embrace each day as it comes, and good luck!
