Pretty Woman - The Musical, New Theatre Oxford

By Millie Zhou

Step into an evening of opulence, where the air is charged with anticipation, and the promise of Broadway music at your fingertips. Recently, I had the pleasure of attending the glitz and timeless romance that is Pretty Woman. Such an affair it was certainly a night to remember.

The enchantment began with a touch of glamour as guests arrived to the pre-show Gala with laughter echoing in the background and sequins sparkled in the backdrop. The Piano Bar at the New Theatre Oxford exuded charm, adorned with whimsical balloons, and illuminated by sparkling lights, setting the stage for an evening of love, laughter, and magic. The excitement in the air was palpable and the energy was contagious.

The true luminary of the evening was Pretty Woman: the Musical. As the lights dimmed and the show began, the anticipation reached a crescendo as the patrons were still buzzing from the Gala festivities. The actors and actresses stepped into their role with grace and candour, bringing Vivian and Edward to life in a way only the grandeur of a musical can.

The musical itself was a sweet decadent blend of love, laughter, and infectious tunes. The chemistry on stage was undeniable as the cast danced through ups and downs, infusing a dash of humour, into Vivian and Edward’s timeless romance. The music transcended beyond a mere medley of ‘90s, but a symphony of emotions that evoked smiles, swoons, and perhaps a heartfelt tear or two.

As the final notes of the musical echoed and the final bow was taken, the applause cascaded through the theatre like a standing ovation, a tribute to a timeless love story that has etched its place in the hearts of many. It was a night of enchantment from the very beginning.

Whether you are a hopeless romantic or just in the mood for a night of pure fun, Pretty Woman the Musical is your golden ticket to an evening brimming with love, laughter, and musical brilliance. It is not just a musical, but a poignant reminder of the transformative power of love, often found in the most unexpected places.
