The great thing about studying at Oxford is the abundance and breadth of extracurricular activities. Seriously: there is something for everyone, from harry potter clubs, to board game societies, and niche sports and games. JCRs and MCRs also put on free events: from pinot and paint to free brunch to trivia nights.
I am a part of a cover band, made up of immunologists: hence, the name IMMposters. We play pop/rock music at a few gigs throughout the year (the next one is at the Jericho Tavern in June). Mainly, it is a great way to meet people, network and relax after work. It is great fun, and I’ve really enjoyed being a part of something in addition to my studies.
Being part of a band/club/society/gym/college club is a great way to expand your horizons, meet new people and do something for yourself. It is very easy to spend all of your time working and resting, so adding in something else is great for variety and recreation.
It is also a way to meet people outside of your course/college axis, and it’s great to have multiple friend groups wherever you are in life!
So, join a club, join a gym or a band, and if you’re free, come to your local Oxford pub to see the IMMposters!
