The Lion at Wendlebury

By Tilly Rose

Since starting 'That Oxford Girl' I have been lucky enough to be offered lots of #gifted goodies and experiences from both local and national brands. I pass nearly all of these onto my amazing team of TOG student ambassadors and get such a buzz from seeing them visit some truly unique spots around the city and try out a variety of exciting products! It's such a brilliant way to reward them for all their inspiring posts on the TOG platform.

So, you can imagine, going on one of these #gifted experiences myself on a visit to 'The Lion at Wendlebury' was such a TREAT!I was so excited to be able to take my mum to this lovely spot for her birthday and wow, it certainly did not disappoint...

Situated between Bicester Village, Oxford City and Blenheim Palace, The Lion is the ideal place to stay if you're looking to explore some of Oxfordshire's key landmarks. You'd never know this quiet, little haven, overlooking fields and rolling countryside is positioned just off the M40, making it super convenient whilst remaining such a relaxing spot.

Its trademark Oxfordshire stone and beautiful interiors gave it a warm and welcoming feel from the word 'go'.

Our evening meal surpassed expectations in every way. We were envisaging traditional 'pub' food but instead were presented with delicately presented plates of adventurous dishes, bursting with flavour, made from locally sourced ingredients. After eating every last piece of the Thai chicken lollipops and chickpea and sweet potato cakes to start, we could

have gone home satisfied - they were genuinely unreal. The cod on a bed of squid ink and dauphinoise potatoes was equally delicious and the sticky toffee pudding, proved to be the dreamiest end to the most delicious meal. The staff were so friendly and accommodating.

The Lion also have two private dining rooms, often used by businesses as meeting rooms in the week and families of a weekend - no charge for hiring, just whatever you choose from the menu. Highly recommend visiting the restaurant for a tasty lunch or dinner.

The next day after a yummy avo on toast, continental selection and coffee/juice, we popped to Bicester Village, which was quite literally 5 minutes up the road, for a little bit of retail therapy and yes, we got a few bargains!

If you're a parent visiting Oxford during term time, a visitor exploring the city or surrounding area or you're heading to Oxford for business, the Lion is not only a truly lovely place to stay but also could not be more perfectly located.

We came back feeling rejuvenated, relaxed and restored; our only sadness being we had to leave...another night chilling on that comfy bed, with our magazines and gazing out at the countryside certainly wouldn't have gone amiss...
